Oregonian, 1995. Property Tax Appeals at State Level Hit
David opened his own business in 1973 after graduating from UO Law School. His first property tax appeal was for his mother in 1976 and he vowed he'd never do another one because the process was overly technical and arcane. But with the beginning of the recession in 1980, and interest rates in the 20% range, many buyers were unable to qualify for financing resulting in sellers unable to sell, and many assessment over-valuations. Over the years, property tax appeals became the majority of his practice. By 1985, over 95% of his practice was focused on property tax appeals and it has remained that way for thirty years. The remaining part of David's practice is assisting clients with wills. David has also lobbied the Oregon legislature as needed to protect property tax appeal rights for taxpayers.
Due to his extensive experience with property tax appeals, David is a frequent speaker on the topic at continuing education programs for professionals including: attorneys, certified public accountants, and realtors. David is often a local, regional, and national news resource on property tax appeals as well.
David grew up in Eugene and graduated from South Eugene High School. He went to the University of Oregon for his undergraduate education and graduated in 1970 with a B.S. in political science. David, and his wife Bonnie, live in Eugene and have three grown children Tom, Joe, and Jamie. They enjoy spending time with their six grandchildren and beloved rescue dog Monty. David is a lifelong fan of the San Francisco Giants and the Oregon Ducks. After three unsuccessful attempts, David retired from law practice in 2022.
